First of all, thanks to everyone that’s already bought their passes (especially as no films have been announced!) If you’re planning to buy your pass soon, the early bird price has been extended until 9th September. We will be confirming details of our launch event in the coming week so watch this space.
Well, the time has come for our first festival programme announcement. This is just a small selection of what we have in store…
First up, we have I SELL THE DEAD (pictured above) starring Dominic Monaghan (Lord of The Rings) and Hellboy himself, Ron Perlman in a period-set tale of grave robbers who find that some of their cargo is not quite as dead as expected. With an equal balance of scares and humour and lavish production design, I SELL THE DEAD is a pitch-perfect vintage-styled horror movie, harking back to the days of Hammer and Amicus.
Following on from our Extreme Japan season earlier this year, we will be showing two new movies from Japan at this year’s festival. In VAMPIRE GIRL VS FRANKENSTEIN GIRL, Tokyo Gore Police director Yoshihiro Nishimura teams up with co-director Naoyuki Tomomatsu (Stacy) to provide their own deranged take on the archetypal high school movie. Expect mad scientists, bizarre youth cults, outrageous slapstick and lots and lots of blood.
Also from Japan is YOROI: SAMURAI ZOMBIE, written and produced by Ryuhei Kitamura (Versus, Midnight Meat Train) and directed by Versus star Tak Sakaguchi.
A family on vacation get hijacked by a couple of low-level criminals, and soon stumble across an abandoned village. As soon as a single drop of blood is spilled on the ground, the village’s curse is revealed and the Samurai Zombie emerges to wreak bloody retribution on anyone nearby.
We will be screening several films in our classics section, including David Cronenberg’s SHIVERS, which I’m sure needs no introduction :)
From Australia comes LAKE MUNGO, which we are absolutely thrilled to be screening. A documentary account of the mysterious and supernatural occurrences following the accidental death of a teenage girl, LAKE MUNGO courageously takes on the reality-horror format (notoriously difficult to pull off) and gets it absolutely right. There are sequences in this film that will send a chill down the spine of even the most hardened horror fan…
That’s all we can reveal for now, but remember that this is only a sneak preview of some of the films we’ll be showing over the weekend. We’re also working hard on securing some great special guests…
The full programme line-up for the festival will be revealed on Wednesday 9th September at our launch event at the Showroom. As mentioned above, full details will be sent out this coming week…
