Been a while since I posted an update, so here's the scoop on all our screenings in April and May ...
20th April - The Pit and The Pendulum (15)
Starring Vincent Price, Barbara Steele
In this lavish and lurid adaptation of Edgar Allen Poe's classic tale, Vincent Price stars as Don Nicholas Medina, a 16th Century Spanish nobleman whose wife dies in mysterious circumstances. When her brother arrives looking for an explanation, strange occurrences begin to take place which uncover the sinister history behind the walls of Don Medina's castle.
20th May - Celluloid Screams [REC] Double Bill: featuring [REC] and a special preview of [REC]2
[REC] (18)
Dir. Jaume Balaguero, Paco Plaza | Spain | 2007 | 1 hr 18 mins
We precede our special screening of [REC]2 with another chance to see where it all started. Efficient, nailbitingly tense and frequently terrifying, [REC] burst onto the scene in 2007 with
its bloodthirsty story of a reality TV crew who find themselves in the middle of an outbreak in a quarantined building.
[REC]2 (18)
Dir. Jaume Balaguero, Paco Plaza | Spain | 2009 | 1 hr 25 mins
Moments after the events of the first film, a medical officer and SWAT team enter the quarantined apartment block to take control of the situation. With all the action captured by the team's helmet-mounted cameras, [REC]2 is set to be even scarier than it's predecessor, so join us for this special screening ahead of its theatrical release.
27th May - Celluloid Screams Presents: A Euro-Horror Double Bill
A LIZARD IN A WOMAN'S SKIN (18)
Dir. Lucio Fulci | Italy, Spain, France | 1971 | 1 hr 41 mins
The daughter of a respected politician begins experiencing bizarre and vivid nightmares of murder in this little-seen gem from cult director Lucio Fulci. With an unsettling score courtesy of Ennio Morricone, this fine example of the Italian giallo is a must-see for fans of Euro horror cinema.
THE LIVING DEAD AT THE MANCHESTER MORGUE (18)
Dir. Jorge Grau | Italy, Spain | 1974 | 1hr 35 mins
In this unique and atmospheric zombie film, a group of people are forced to face the undead in the heart of the British countryside after they are brought back to life by exposure to experimental pesticides. Though initially conceived by its producers as a cynical cash-in on the success of Night of the Living Dead, Jorge Grau's film has a style all of its own, with outstanding special effects by Gianetto De Rossi and stark cinematography, capitalising on the gloom of the British locale to create this sublime Euro-shocker.
